In early Japan, people wrapped gifts and prizes in origami to symbolize sincerity and purity. Origami is still also used for creating folded cards and envelopes.

Making origami provides numerous benefits, such as boosting creativity, relieving stress, improving focus, and developing better hand-eye coordination. Origami can be helpful in real life. For example, origami principles aided NASA in designing spacecraft that can be folded into small structures and then deployed \to be expanded again. Koryo Miura, a Japanese astrophysicist, designed the collapsible solar array for a Japanese satellite; his techniques were also used in other products in space. Another example of someone who implemented origami in the real world is Taketoshi Nojima, who created an earthquake-resistant structure and furniture.
