The Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a survival book. Thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson was flying on an airplane to visit his father. Suddenly, the pilot gets an heart attack and dies. Brian then crash lands on a forest area on the Canadian Wilderness. The book tells readers about what and how Brian did things in a span of 54 days, stranded.


I really liked the book. My favorite parts are the parts where Brian stays positive and is happy. Paulsen's writing really has a way to make writers feel what Brian feels. A thirteen year old boy is affected by his parents divorced. He goes to see his father on a one engine plane. The pilot has a heart attack and dies, which leaves Brain to crash land the plane. He has to survive with his only tool he has, which is a hatchet. His survival skills get better and he can survive by himself. 13 year old Brian who is affected with his parents divorced was lost in the forest, when he was on the way to see his father.On the way, there, the pilot suffered a heart attack and dies, causing Brian to try to land safetly.Trying to survive for a few days, his survival skills improve.I think this book is great book and I would recommend this book because it was very fun and action packed to read.
