Transition Services

Transition services are provided to students (ages 14 through 22) that are currently being served by the school system under an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or through the Division of Blind Services.

Presently, our center serves a variety of students, who are in gifted academic programs to students who have additional disabilities. They come from various academic settings such as charter schools, private schools, public schools in the Lee County School district and the Lee County Hi-Tech Special Vocational Centers under the Lee County School district.

The transition program prepares young adults with visual impairments to be able to live as independently as possible as they transition from high school onto the next stage of their adult life. The program covers the following areas: daily living skills (i.e., cooking, cleaning, organization skills, personal management with finances and other related areas), assistive technology training, orientation and mobility, low vision and medical eye examinations, investigating possible places to live once they graduate (apartments, goodwill housing, section 8, etc.), job readiness skills such as resume writing, cover pages, etc., and the opportunity for actual work experience, as well as recreational and leisure activities.

Transition Services encourages:

  4. Communication skills
  5. Self advocacy skills, etc.
