Brief History & Mission Statement

“Cottage meetings” were held in the homes of people in 1974 in Fort Myers to determine how to meet the needs of visually impaired and blind.   Today, a center has grown to provide over 50 rehabilitation and support programs to the visually impaired and blind in Lee and Collier Counties of Southwest Florida.

The Organization is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, rehabilitation and recreational purposes to provide visually impaired persons with the skills necessary to allow them to achieve their chosen level of independence.

Visually Impaired Persons of Southwest Florida is a non profit rehabilitation center committed
to ensuring blind and visually impaired persons have the tools, support and opportunities
necessary to successfully achieve their desired level of independence.
